Quite a few of the amazingly talented participants tackled DIY-ing built-ins in the recent spring ‘22 ORC® event. The finished projects are incredible.

Whether you’re interested in trying your hand at making your own built-ins or you just want to look through some truly impressive projects, this is the article for you.

Here are a whopping 16 DIY built-in projects from the most recent ORC® that will knock your socks off.

Lauren made this gorgeous built-in completely from scratch for her study project. The window allowed her to create a window seat (who doesn’t love a good window seat?) and the pitch of the roof creates a really interesting shape for the bookcases.

This incredible dining room built-in by Steph is a combination of Billy bookcases from IKEA and scrap plywood for the base. She lined the back of the bookcases with shiplap, which gives the whole thing some extra character.

If you have DIY skills like this, you gotta build yourself a killer DIY workspace. Once you reach a certain point in your DIY career you’ve probably accumulated a lot of tools and supplies. This garage setup by Jenna is the perfect solution to organizing and storing supplies, plus counter space for putting them to use.

Lindsey of Hilltown House has dubbed this space the “morning room,” and the gorgeous shelves surrounding the french doors were part of her recent ORC project. This is such a genius and visually interesting use of space on this wall.

Angela added these upper cabinet boxes as part of her kitchen refresh. They’re great for extra storage/display space, and it’s amazing how much taking the cabinets all the way to the ceiling elevates the whole kitchen.

Similarly, Nicole also DIYed a solution to filling the space above the kitchen cabinets. She built plywood boxes that fit that space, and trimmed them with 1x1s to give them a shaker look.

Kylie’s husband built this amazing, space efficient built-in for her laundry room makeover. It puts the washer and dryer at a convenient height, and it adds counter space for folding, shelves for decor/display, and cabinets for storage. What more could you need?

Lisa got very creative with building storage to suit her specific idea. What started out as an unfinished space in the basement under the stairs is now a fully fledged wine cellar, and the DIY built-in is definitely the star of the show and an impressive feat.

Amy started out the ORC with absolutely no storage in this family room. She did such a great job adding these bookcases and cabinets that we’d never know they haven’t always been there.

Heather built this lovely built-in storage + window seat combo in her daughter’s room. Kid’s rooms can get chaotic so quickly with toys and such, so having a built-in like this would be a game changer.

Mom and daughter duo Michelle & Steph built this built-in and a matching one to abut the fireplace. The lower cabinets are hiding speakers (which play through the rattan) that go with the projector screen that raises and lowers above the fireplace!

Raven created this fabulous office built-in with Billy bookcases and trim/baseboard. She chose a color that would create a really fun, unique focal point for the room.

On the other hand, white is always a great choice for a built-in. It allows whatever you display to stand out, and it minimizes visual clutter. This lovely white built-in is by Tiffany of Creatiff DIY.

This amazing home office/craft space built-in is by Amanda of Grace Interiors. The panel accents on the lower cabinets add so much character to the piece. What great storage to have in an office space!

Storage can be hard to come by in a bathroom space. This linen cabinet built-in that Aubrey and Laura built is both beautiful and so space efficient. The natural wood looks lovely in the room!

Erika built/installed all this fabulous storage in her laundry room, including that amazing built-in that stacks the washer and dryer. Storage is arguably the most important part of a laundry room, and what a bonus that Erika’s is gorgeous green.
