The One Room Challenge® Spring ‘24 event has officially come to a close, and what a spectacular season it was. Here at ORC HQ we’ve been zealously browsing the reveals (which you can do here). Here’s our breakdown of what we saw making waves this season.

Lots of color

Bold & moody hues made a big splash this season. Color has been steadily reclaiming its place in our interiors. Obviously color didn’t disappear completely from our lives, but the 00s and 10s were mostly dominated by white, beige, or pastel walls. We’ve been moving in this direction for a few years—I’m absolutely positive that the accent wall boom was our collective way of dipping a toe into bold color.

Now, we’ve fully jumped in the water with color drenching (ICYMI, color drenching is a relatively new term for painting your walls, ceiling, trim, doors, etc. the same shade). Color drenching has rapidly (and rightfully) become a popular tool for setting the mood of a room and for reflecting personality.

By deliberately incorporating color into interior design, we can create spaces that not only look good but also make us feel good. This understanding is driving the color resurgence, as more people seek to personalize their homes with hues that resonate with them on a deeper level.

Second hand gems & antique charm

This season we also saw more thrifted and second-hand gems than ever before. Thrifted items are great because they’re typically both less expensive and better made, and they infuse a space with character and a sense of individuality that new items often lack.

As for why thrifting is huge right now specifically, it could be a combination of distaste for today’s breakneck trend cycle churn, and Facebook Marketplace making it a million times easier to find incredible second-hand pieces. Plus, you can’t really beat the thrill of trolling for the perfect piece and the joy of discovering hidden gems. Regardless of the cause, we’re absolutely loving all the one-of-a-kind treasures.

Likewise, the reveals were brimming with antique and vintage charm. Whether it’s a continuation of our love for the grand-millennial look or we all have Bridgerton-brain (or both), many of the spaces this season blended the elegance and character of the past with modern sensibilities.

The mix of old and new not only enhances the visual interest of a space but also tells a story, making interiors feel more personal and inviting. Everything old is indeed new again!

There were so many incredible, interesting, and unique spaces this season that our recap has only scratched the surface. You can browse all the amazing reveals here
