Community Spotlight: Woods and Wild DIY on Designing the Perfect Bathroom for Four Swiftie Daughters

Kelly (@woods.and.wild.DIY) did an incredible job transforming her daughters’ shared bathroom during the fall ‘24 ORC event. We asked her about her inspiration, her playful, happy design style, and how starting with a theme affected the design process.

I have to admit I do love a bit of fun and whimsy in any space I design -- a little something that makes you smile every time you look at it. That's what takes a room from cookie-cutter to distinctive, and what better place to do that than in a bathroom? The TS theme came about as I was brainstorming the design with my 4 girls. We've all been following the Eras Tour for the last 2 years. Once we got the idea, we just ran with it... I did not want to be too on-the-nose, but more subtle nods to some of her best songs and lyrics while still remaining a stylish and functional bathroom.

It was not overly challenging to find Taylor Easter Eggs for our design; if anything, it was hard to not associate everything with her songs! For instance, the harlequin pattern on the floor was not meant to be a reference, but then my 11 year old observed that it was just like the Mastermind performance, like a chess board. The ivy and disco ball decor was maybe the most challenging for me. I could not quite picture it in my head, but once I started hanging the ivy I obsessed with how ethereal and festive it was, and I knew it would be a stand out feature.
