B&A: First-Time DIYer’s Happy, Vibrant Home Office

BEFORE & AFTER

The recent spring ‘24 ORC was Brielle’s first crack at blogging, DIYing, and ORCing, and she completely knocked it out of the park with this space. When Brielle and her husband moved into a 120-year-old Dutch Colonial full of character and all the usual old house issues, fun projects got put on the backburner. Finally, Brielle, a professional artist and designer, was able to dive into creating her home office and studio space, and the finished room is a creative paradise.

Brielle set out to create a space that met her needs as an artist working in multiple mediums, and that would make her feel happy and energized.

On the walls, she wanted something bright and cheery, but that would allow whatever art she’s working on to still be the primary focus. She chose a warm white on the walls and an absolutely stunning green on the ceiling and trim, which struck the perfect balance. Design skills and elbow grease for the win.

For the decor, she hunted for deep wood furniture and items with vintage and antique character that would fit with the historic look of the home and add charm to the space.

To add plenty of storage for art supplies, papers, etc. Brielle hired a local closet company to build a couple of large cabinets. She designed them to create a nook that mirrors the window nook on the opposite side of the room—bonus points for symmetry!

The finished space has plenty of storage for all her art supplies, a drafting table for art, a desk for her computer, a comfy chair to relax, and SO much happy, inspiring, creative energy.

Congratulations to Brielle on completing her first ORC!
