B&A: English Conservatory Meets Florida Sunroom
BEFORE & AFTER
Linda of Calling it Home planned and oversaw a substantial home renovation recently and took on one of the rooms in the Fall 2023 One Room Challenge.
When Linda purchased her home almost a decade ago, she knew it needed some of the structural updates older homes commonly need, like a new roof. After two hurricanes worth of delays, the renovation has finally wrapped up.
One of the main things that absolutely needed to be replaced were the windows. The updated windows are both newly hurricane rated and downright stunning.
Being in Florida, Linda was determined to take full advantage of all the sunlight and year round lush, green landscape by adding more windows and glass doors. Above you can see the listing image, plus two in progress shots from her renovation.
Linda also had the ceiling raised by three feet which made the room feel more spacious and created the opportunity for taller windows. On the outer perpendicular wall, a sliding glass door was replaced with three large windows that increased the glass surface area for that wall as well.
Once the big structural update was finished, it was decor time! Linda’s goal was to create a comfy space for her family to hang out, and she chose an eclectic, sunroom vibe that works perfectly with all the windows. We love all the rattan, wicker and terracotta working together to bring outside elements in, and that credenza is a showstopper. The gorgeous trees and plants help create structure, texture, and also make the space feel cozier.
Linda also recently wrote a follow-up post about photographing her project herself. We think it's a resource worthy of passing along to our readers and One Room Challenge participants. As many interior design enthusiasts know, the most beautiful room in existence may or may not shine depending on the photography. In fact, editors looking to feature ORC projects are looking for quality images as are brands looking for potential partners. Linda had weather issues that made it necessary to be her own photographer, and she rose to the challenge. Check out her "how to" post here for a lot of helpful tips and recommendations.
