DIY: 5 More Amazing Ceiling Ideas
DO IT YOURSELF
It’s been a minute since our last article about styling the fifth wall of a space. Since then, many talented ORC-ers have embellished their ceilings in creative and inspiring ways.
From covering popcorn texture to creating an artistic masterpiece, these five One Room Challenge® participants have some terrific answers to the eternal question: “what should I do about the ceiling?”.
This DIY double lattice ceiling by Gail in her primary bedroom is so insanely creative. Paired with grasscloth wallpaper, green hues, and textiles with leaf motifs, it transforms her room into a secret garden.
For her primary bedroom makeover, Jess’s goal is “European Cottage meets Tahoe Ski Chalet.” Adding this peel-and-stick wood plank ceiling gives the room a wonderful extra touch of warmth and texture.
Janelle’s DIY faux beams were a perfect addition to her home office/sunroom. The finished room is full of greens and neutrals and is fairly minimal. The beams add character and warmth without looking out of place or distracting.
Like Rachel mentioned in her reel, sometimes it’s much more time and cost effective to cover up a textured ceiling rather than trying to scrape, sand, or skim coat the texture away. She chose to cover the ceiling with beadboard panels. They fix the texture problem and add so much charm to the space— a win win!
Danielle’s hand painted ceiling mural was inspired by the look of wallpaper on the ceiling, and painting it herself makes it so unique and custom. The ceilings in her bedroom are 12 feet tall, so this was quite a feat to pull off, but ultimately very worth it!
Orooj was also brave enough to free-hand a mural on her ceiling in her home office. It’s bold and impactful, and unites the ceiling and the darker walls in a very creative way. It’s giving me fun 80s vibes.
